The archetype of the solar Muse: a persistent insular tropical trope

Pink clouds—for in the geography of the postcard, the sky is inevitably roseate. Amidst spikes of tropical flora, sharp like arrows or blades, we find textures of rags. Upon closer inspection, these thorns reveal themselves as discarded textiles. Does suffering find solace in the heat?

A 'land of beautiful waters' now parched. Through pervasive erosion, the postcard medium confronts global anxieties regarding climate disruption and anthropogenic ecological disaster.

This curated space examines the physical sites and conceptual locales that ground my creative praxis.

Mona Isla re-imagines the Gioconda through a Madras lens. By reclothing the ultimate icon of French art in traditional Creole attire, she investigates a peripheral yet pervasive French identity.
